Baptism Information

Peter replied, "Repent and be baptized, every one of you, in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins.  And you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit."  Acts 2:38

What is baptism?

The word baptize means to dip in, or to immerse.  As a Christian, being immersed is simply an outward sign of what happened inside when you made the decision to accept and follow Christ.  It also shows symbolically how Jesus Christ was buried and resurrected.

When should someone be baptized?

3,000 people were baptized after believing in Jesus Christ (Acts 2:41).  You should be baptized as soon as you accept Christ as your Lord and Savior.  Choosing to be baptized is the first step of obedience to Christ that a believer makes.

Why should someone be baptized?

It is a new beginning for you!!!  Even Jesus was baptized (Matthew 3:16).  Picture being immersed, this is a symbol of the death, burial, and resurrection of Jesus.  When you become a Christian you are a new person.  Being immersed in water shows we are ?buried? with Christ in His death.  We are ?raised? out of the water to live like Jesus (Colossians 2:12).

What if I was baptized as an infant?

Infant baptism is done in some churches as a ?baptism of confirmation?.  This custom began about 300 years after the Bible was completed and is intended to be a covenant between the parents and God on behalf of the child.  The Bible shows us stories of people getting baptized shortly after they decided to follow Christ (Acts 8:36-38).  An infant cannot make that decision, and the Bible is very clear that baptism follows a personal commitment to Jesus Christ.

How do you get baptized?

The process of baptism is very simple.  Life Link Church does this in the way that it is done in the Bible.  First you must accept Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior, then you will be led by a pastor in the process of baptism.
